The Strawberry Thief. Hand-embellished 1930s Vintage Miniature Japanese Display Wooden Box

An artisan-quality hand-embellished, refurbished "Strawberry Thief" 1930s wooden keepsake cabinet.

This is an heirloom-quality 1930s antique jewellery box that I found in Tokyo. But it was broken and in several pieces. Two years of on-and-off research, repair, and hand-embellishment have gone into this little heirloom art piece.

I've painted the gold around the front of the cabinet, fixed the broken door (I carved a wooden piece to replace the broken part, put cutout birds on the sides to hide rough parts, and covered the entire interior (yes, including nooks and crannies) with William Morris's 'The Strawberry Thief' pattern and made sure everything was nicely aligned, so the pattern smoothly continues in the bottom drawer. Then I adhered 76 Swarovski crystals one by one.

I've left the cabinet exterior largely untouched so you can see the cosmetic damage on the veneer of the right panel, and where there's warping just at the top edge on the back. The cabinet is very sturdy, very beautiful, and very elegant.
